For over 27 years, I have dedicated my career to helping schools thrive — from the classroom to district leadership. My journey began as an instructional assistant supporting students with emotional and behavioral challenges, and it has taken me through roles as a teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal, and district director.

I served as a high school principal for 7 years and an elementary principal for 3 years, where I led transformative work despite significant challenges like high free and reduced lunch rates, a diverse student body, and limited community resources. Under my leadership, our high school was recognized as a Model School by the International Center for Educational Leadership and consistently ranked among the top 15 schools by US News & World Report.  Our elementary school saw us increase our enrollment as well as family involvement while experiencing unprecedented academic growth of our students.

One of my proudest accomplishments as a principal was creating 10 career pathways offering industry certifications, internships, and apprenticeships — opening doors for students to meaningful futures. This success reflected my belief that every student deserves opportunity and support.

Currently, I serve as the Director of Secondary Education for Bullitt County Public Schools near Louisville, Kentucky, where I continue to champion authentic learning experiences and instructional leadership.

Now, through Principally Speaking with Amy, I coach principals who often feel isolated and siloed in their work. Rather than acting as a traditional mentor, I use Cognitive Coaching to build their confidence, help them solve their own challenges, and create trust and clarity in their leadership. My goal is to provide a supportive partnership that empowers school leaders to lead with greater purpose and impact.

In addition to coaching, I am an experienced speaker and keynote presenter, sharing insights on leadership, instructional excellence, and authentic learning at conferences and professional events.I hold a doctorate from Western Kentucky University and am certified in Cognitive Coaching. As a professional development trainer for Kagan Publishing, I empower educators with engagement tools to elevate teaching and learning.
